A Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is a keyhole surgery operation performed by your surgeon augmented by the da Vinci robot to remove your prostate and cure you of prostate cancer. It is usually performed as a 24-hour inpatient stay, such that you will be admitted on the day of surgery to be discharged next day with a small tube in the urethra to drain urine. You will be taught how to look after that and be re-admitted for its removal in the outpatient setting in 8 to 10 days. We normally expect patients to be able to drive within a week of surgery and more physical activities within the month. At six weeks post surgery you have a PSA blood test and then you see your surgeon with a PSA blood test result and the microscopic examination of the prostate specimen the week after.
