Professional Biography
Richard is a consultant urologist and urological cancer lead at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport. He also provides, with his colleagues, a Urology service at Macclesfield General Hospital, Tameside Hospital and Buxton Hospital.
Having trained in the North-West and Australia Richard has developed further skills in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgical procedures in prostate and bladder cancer surgery. All prostate removals are now performed using the robotic da Vinci device. Along with Urological surgeon colleague Neil Oakley, he also performed the first ever bladder removal (cystectomy) in Manchester using this device.
He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is on their teaching committee introducing training tools to aid the teaching of complex urological operations to the next generation of surgeons.
